For the first time in history, US generates more power using renewables than coal
According to a report by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), the US generated more power from renewables last month than it did using coal.
“Five years ago this never would have been close to happening,” says IEEFA researcher Dennis Wamstead. “The transition that’s going on in the electric sector in the US has been phenomenal.”
We are likely to see this trend continue into May, predicts the IEEFA, and sporadically throughout the rest of this year and next year.
And while coal supporters (like President Trump) are likely to treat these ups and downs as unimportant, they are in fact indicative of huge changes taking place within the electric generation sector.
“As natural gas achieved earlier, renewable generation is catching up to coal, and faster than forecast,” notes the report.
Coal’s share of total power generation dropped from 45% in 2010 to 28% in 2018 and is expected to drop another 4% in 2020.
Natural gas surpassed coal as America’s primary power source in 2016 and we can expect renewables to overcome coal (on an annual basis) sometime during the next decade.
Joe Biden says ‘China is not a threat’
According to Joe Biden, a totalitarian nation of 1.4 billion that steals from the United States and persecutes Christians is not a threat.
“They can’t even figure out how to deal with the fact that they have this great division between the China Sea and the mountains in the East, I mean in the West,” joked Biden Wednesday during a campaign stop in Iowa. “They can’t figure out how they are going to deal with the corruption that exists within the system. I mean, you know, they’re not bad folks. But guess what, they’re not competition for us.”
Biden’s words directly contradict FBI Director Christopher Wray, who last week described China as a “multilayered threat” to the United States.
Nonetheless, Biden says China is too busy dealing with its own problems to cause us any harm. “China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man,” said Biden.
Here are a few reasons we should be worried about China:
— Widespread censorship and surveillance
— Religious persecution, including mass imprisonment
— Aggression in South China Sea
— Intellectual property theft and spying
— Planned military expansions
— Belt and Road Initiative
Biden’s stance on China will be another bullet point for Democratic adversaries who are already frustrated with his views and voting record.
My prediction: Joe Biden will be publicly destroyed by his enemies and decide to drop out of the race.
