Trump Signs Executive Order Requiring Government to Buy ‘Essential’ Drugs From U.S. Companies

President Donald Trump said he signed an executive order Thursday requiring the federal government to buy “essential” drugs from U.S. companies.

“We cannot rely on China and other nations across the globe that could one day deny us products,” Trump said Thursday from the Whirlpool Corporation Manufacturing Plant in Clyde, Ohio. “As we’ve seen in this pandemic, the U.S. must produce essential equipment supplies and pharmaceuticals for ourselves.”

The Details

White House trade advisor Peter Navarro said earlier in the day that Trump was expected to sign the order, called “buy American,” during his trip to Ohio.

Using a racially charged description of the virus, Navarro said: “If we’ve learned anything from the ‘China virus’ pandemic, it is that we are dangerously overdependent on foreign nations for our essential medicines, for medical supplies like masks, gloves, goggles and medical equipment like ventilators.” Read more…

Biden Decomposing: Latinos ‘Incredibly Diverse’- ‘Unlike Black Community’

Former Vice President Joe Biden remarked in an interview released Thursday that “unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community.”

Biden was addressing the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) Joint Virtual Convention. Portions of the interview were aired Wednesday, and the full video was streamed Thursday.

National Public Radio’s Lulu Garcia-Navarro asked Biden about whether he would stop the deportation of Cubans.

“I’m going to look at every single country in the world … this guy [President Donald Trump] is sending them back,” Biden  said, promising to extend the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program on his first day in office – one of several such first-day promises Biden has made.

Garcia-Navarro followed up, asking whether Biden would attempt to restore the Obama-Biden administration’s policy of improving relations with communist Cuba. Read more…
